Description

Dear Grandma – 1 shows a ginger cat in a white bonnet with red polka dots holding a kitten, with daisies growing on either side.

What the picture shows

The background is a clean, saturated yellow, and the figure reads against it like an appliqué. The bonnet is worked in white beads with red dots, the glasses in black, and the long necklace across the chest in rows of pink and white. The dress is pieced from dark patches — emerald, purple, blue — with a turquoise bead net laid over them for a diamond pattern. Clumps of daisies with white petals and yellow centres stand to the left and right. The faces of the cat and kitten stay printed: the beads work on the clothes, flowers and jewellery, and the background is left bare. The turquoise net on the dress takes the most time: it has to run in even diagonals so the diamonds do not drift, and it is what makes the cloth look woven. The daisies and bonnet feel like a rest after it.
