Description

Daughter's birthday – 1 shows a pair of tiny pink booties beneath a shelf of toys. The piece is quiet and almost plotless — just objects.

What the picture shows

The upper part is taken up by a shelf of printed toys: a giraffe, a teddy, presents, a balloon and sweets on a pink ground. Its edge is outlined with a dense row of white and red beads with a pearly sheen. Below, on a pale lilac ground, lie two booties: soles and uppers worked in cream and white beads, the edges in red, with pink bows of pink and crimson beads and ribbon on top. A border of white flowers with red centres runs along the bottom edge. The soft lilac background is left as print, and it gives the piece air. Seven bead colours.
