Description

Cradle shows a baby asleep in a wicker basket under a lilac curtain, with two small teddy bears sitting beside it.

What the picture shows

The basket is worked in horizontal rows of golden and amber beads and is the densest part of the piece. The blanket is yellow with a white pillow, and bears of brown beads sit to the left and right of the child. The curtain above is shown in lilac and white rows with folds, scattered with small white flowers. Stems with red-orange blooms and dark green leaves rise on either side. The baby’s face, the toy rabbits below and the pale ground stay as print. There are 8 colours. The wickerwork is built in rows from the bottom up, and it is the evenness of those rows that gives the sense of woven cane. The curtain above is worked in arcs along the folds, and the small white flowers on it are scattered unevenly once the fabric is done.
