Description

Congratulations – 8 shows a hedgehog in an oversized blue hat with a yellow buckle, holding an armful of presents while butterflies drift past.

What the picture shows

The hat is worked in blue beads with paler highlights and is the largest stitched area in the piece. Under the brim the face — black nose, pink cheeks — stays as print. Below stand a pink box with a blue ribbon, a basket of orange flowers, blue harebells and a red poppy, all outlined in beads. Green stitches glint in the grass, a red ladybird sits on the brim, and a pink and a green butterfly hover on the upper right. Sky and grass stay printed: the 10 colours pick out objects rather than covering the ground. The hat is stitched almost solid and carries the whole picture; everything else is only outlined. That makes the kit a good first try at beadwork, showing the difference between dense filling and simple outlining.
