Description

Congratulations – 18 shows an acoustic guitar, a small drum and a globe against an old world map.

What the picture shows

The guitar is outlined in amber and brown beads, the neck in black-and-white rows of frets, the rosette around the sound hole in dark beads. A small drum stands on the left: its hoops are laid in golden beads and the tension cords shown as pale diagonals. Above it sits a globe on a stand, the meridians worked in light and dark blue, the legs in black. A world map hangs behind and a fireplace is visible; both stay as print on the canvas. The range is dark, brown and gold; the 9 colours work on the objects, not the ground. The fretted neck, worked in alternating black and white, is the most exacting part, and a slip shows immediately. The globe and the drum go far more easily afterwards, with simple shapes and long rows.
