Description

Congratulations – 15 shows a stem with four pink rosebuds against pale crumpled fabric.

What the picture shows

The buds are half open: each is worked in pink beads with a white outline along the petal edge, the centres paler and almost pearly. The stem runs from bottom to top outlined in two rows of green beads, and long toothed leaves branch off it in dark green with turquoise highlights. The background — blurred yellow, white and blue folds like satin — stays as print on the canvas. That is deliberate: the beads sit only on the plant, and that is why it comes forward. The 7 colours are mostly greens and pinks. The buds are worked from the base to the tip so the rows converge and the shape holds. The long leaves are drawn in one movement and set the tilt of the whole stem, so it is worth starting with them.
