Description

Congratulations – 14 shows several large pink-lilac mallow flowers against a saturated turquoise ground.

What the picture shows

The petals are worked in rows of pale pink and crimson beads, each edged with a white outline that gives them their relief. The centres are yellow, made from tiny beads. The flowers run diagonally from upper right to lower left, with green leaves in two shades and a few closed buds between them. The turquoise ground stays as print: in this piece the beads are deliberately laid on the flowers alone, so the contrast with the flat blue-green field is sharp. The 8 colours are enough to show the shifts inside each petal. The white outline along each petal edge is the key detail: without it the flowers would merge into the turquoise ground. It is worked after the petal is finished and takes the most time.
