Description

Congratulations – 10 shows a pink rose on a branch, with a view of a house by the water and a blue bird set in a golden arch above it.

What the picture shows

The upper half is taken by an arched window outlined with a double row of golden beads. Inside sits a watercolour landscape: a yellow house with a red roof, trees, a river. It stays as print, and the only beading is the bird flying into the arch — blue wings, a ginger breast. Below lies a large rose worked in a spiral from crimson to pale pink, with two buds beside it and toothed leaves in two greens on a brown branch. The cream ground is left clear. The 8 colours give a restrained, almost vintage range. It is easier to outline the arch first and only then start the rose, which keeps the proportions between the upper and lower halves. The bird goes in last: it takes only a few dozen beads yet brings the landscape to life.
