Description

Congratulations – 1 shows a boy and a girl pushing a barrow full of flowers, with butterflies overhead and a rainbow arching behind. A carefree summer picture.

What the picture shows

Four gold rosettes of bronze beads mark the corners and hold the composition together like studs on an old album page. Green sprigs of fine green beads hang from the top corners. The barrow is worked in brown and gold, and the flowers inside it and along the bottom edge are red, white and pink beads with yellow centres on green leaves. The children, the rabbit at their feet, the butterflies and the rainbow all stay as print on the pale blue ground. Seven bead colours — the leanest count in this series — keep the piece light rather than crowded.
