Best teacher – 1 shows a ginger owl in glasses and a black hat reading an open book, with a bell and a scroll hanging beside it.

What the picture shows

The owl is worked in orange and golden beads — the plumage is shown as short rows and the wings are set off with a darker outline. The glasses and hat are done in black, with a grey-and-white band on the hat. The book in its claws is dark with pale pages outlined in white beads, and the owl wears black boots with amber toes. A bell hangs on the upper right and a rolled scroll on the left, both traced in beads. The yellow-orange ground with its leaves stays as print. The 6 colours are warm and autumnal. The owl’s plumage is worked in short rows following the body, and that decides whether she looks fluffy or flat. The book, bell and scroll are only outlined, so those details go quickly.
