Description

Beloved daughter shows a little girl in a white bonnet hugging a teddy bear, with butterflies drifting around her.

What the picture shows

The bear is worked in amber and brown beads and its outline is the most prominent thing in the piece. The girl wears a pale dress with a blue bow, and her face and hair stay as print. Pink flowers with green leaves lean in from the right. The scene is set in a frame of yellow and orange beads with pink dots in the corners. Outside the frame, three butterflies sit on the pastel ground — blue, orange and pink, each worked separately — and a pink bead band runs along the bottom. There are 8 colours. The butterflies are done last: they are the only elements outside the frame, and their placing is chosen once the rest is finished. The yellow-orange frame is worked in even rows: it is simple, yet it is what separates the scene from the pastel field around it.
