Description

“Around the world” stacks old suitcases against a map, with the word “Travel” across the top. It is about a journey still being planned.

What the picture shows

The background is a printed world map with the outlines of the continents and a page from an old dictionary; it shows through the whole card and is never beaded over. At the top the word “Travel” is worked in black beads with serifs, dense and raised. Below it the cases are piled up: an orange trunk with a domed lid, a yellow one with straps behind it, then an olive-green case, and a blue one with metal corners at the base. Each is outlined with rows of locks, handles and belts in contrasting beads, which makes the stack look heavy. A globe-compass in blue, green and bronze beads lies in the lower right corner. All eleven colours stay within a warm range: ochre, orange, olive and blue.
