Description

“A song about the sea” is a nautical patchwork collage in blue and turquoise: deckchairs, sailing boats, shells, an anchor and a seahorse around a light central window.

What the picture shows

Top left there are yellow, red and green deckchairs on the sand with a seagull beside them; then a purple fish above a bronze anchor, three shells, starfish and a crab in sandy tones, and in the corner a gold star on turquoise waves. Down the left side runs a larger panel: a white town above the water, a sailing boat out at sea and a dark woven creel with fishing tackle. On the right a blue anchor in its own frame and a green seahorse against stripes. Along the bottom, a boat on a wave, a sandcastle, fish and small clouds. The centre is a pale striped window with a paper kite and a string of bunting — the place for a photograph. Beads pick out the objects and outlines, while the sky, the water and the striped ground stay printed.
