Description

“Winter Tale” is a snowy town at night, with a dressed fir tree in the foreground and warm light in the windows of the wooden houses.

What the picture shows

A full-height fir stands on the left, hung with red baubles, gold stars and garlands. Behind it are two houses with steep, snow-capped roofs: the windows glow yellow, smoke curls from a chimney, and one roof carries a small railed balcony. On the right there is another fir and a flight of steps with a handrail, and at the bottom centre a little snowman in a hat. The sky is deep blue and full of snowflakes, and the snow below picks up the same blue. The beading is partial: the sky, the snow, the roofs, the walls and the snowman are beaded, while the front fir with its ornaments stays printed on the canvas.
