“Twitter bird” — a dense decorative pattern of birds, a butterfly, flowers and hearts on a blue ground. The design reads like a patchwork quilt built from folk motifs.

What the picture shows

At the centre is a large butterfly inside a red oval medallion with a floral frame. Two birds with red and pale blue plumage sit at the left and lower part of the canvas, surrounded by daisies, rosettes, spiral shoots, paisley drops and hearts in small check and polka dot. The colours are strong: blue ground with red, yellow, white, green and turquoise. Strips of black-and-white zigzag ornament and lattice run across the design. The beadwork is partial: the birds, the butterfly, the flowers and the curls are beaded, while the blue ground and the checked and dotted patches stay as print on the canvas.
