“Toy Shop” — a snow-covered shop window on the eve of the holidays, with a smiling snowman in a red scarf standing beside it. The piece is warm and festive, full of that December sense of anticipation.

What the picture shows

On the right is a large display window with a sign above the glass: a decorated tree, two teddy bears, dolls in blue and red dresses, alphabet blocks, a basket and a wooden hobby horse. On the left, a door with a Christmas wreath tied with a pink bow, and a lantern by the entrance. A brick parapet dusted with snow runs across the front, and in the foreground a snowman in a black hat holds a big red apple. The palette rests on blue-white snow, warm brick and red-and-green accents. The beadwork is partial: beads cover the snow and roof, the window frames, the wreath, the snowman and the small trees at the sides, while the toys in the window, the dolls and the bears stay printed on the canvas.
