Description

“Titmouse” — a small bird has landed on a wrought-iron fence above a bush of pink peonies. The piece is bright and summery, with the feel of a quiet garden at midday.

What the picture shows

In the centre sits a chickadee with a black cap, white cheeks and a grey barred wing, perched on the horizontal rail of a metal fence. The fence is wrought iron, with two tall spear finials and scrolled volutes beneath them. Below and behind, large pink peonies are in full bloom — several open flowers and a few green buds on firm stems, with dark green leaves between them. The background is warm, ochre-yellow and blurred. The beadwork is partial: beads fill the whole ironwork fence with its scrolls, the peony blooms, the buds and part of the foliage, while the bird itself and the blurred background stay printed on the canvas.
