Description

“The Magic Castle” shows a white castle with sharp towers on a cliff above a valley, and in the foreground a flowering garden beside an old house. The mood is a pink evening.

What the picture shows

The castle stands at the centre: pale walls, reddish roofs, tall spires and a stone bridge leading to the gate. Blue mountains rise behind it and the sky is warm peach-pink. On the left of the foreground is a small half-timbered house with a red roof and yellow shutters, reached by a sandy path with tiny figures of travellers. Dark green firs, bushes and a thick band of flowers — pink, white, lilac, yellow — line the path. A river and village roofs show at the lower right. Coverage is partial: beads work the trees, the flowers, the little house and the foreground bushes, while the castle itself, the mountains, the sky and the river stay printed on the canvas.
