Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "Sunset"

“Sunset” shows a domed rotunda with a colonnade standing above water in lilac dusk, with branches of cherry blossom hanging overhead.

What the picture shows

The building sits in the right-hand part: a wide low dome, a row of columns and steps lit by warm lamps whose reflections stretch across the water in long trails. The whole upper part of the canvas is filled with branches of small pink and white blossom, hanging like a curtain. A line of lamps and pale flowering trees runs along the far bank. The water is calm and lilac-pearl, and the sky shifts from pink to greyish blue. The beadwork is partial: beads cover the blossom and branches above and separate areas of water and bank below, while the building itself, the lamps and most of the surface stay printed. The composition works on contrast: a dense curtain of blossom above and an almost empty, calm expanse of water below. The blossom is drawn finely, cluster by cluster, so the upper part reads almost like lace.
