Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "Successful Hunting"

“Successful Hunting” shows a ginger cocker spaniel puppy that has dragged someone's shoe into the grass and holds it proudly by the lace.

What the picture shows

The puppy fills the centre: light ginger wavy fur, long ears, dark attentive eyes and a black nose. Its front paws rest on a dark red leather shoe whose lace is gripped in its teeth. Tall grass surrounds it, drawn in pale green and yellow stems, and at the upper right large pink flowers hang from dark branches with cut-leaf foliage. The background is the shaded green of a garden with warm light breaking through. The beadwork is partial: beads cover the flowers, the grass stems, the shoe and part of the green background, while the puppy itself stays as the painted print, so the fur looks soft and natural. The composition is simple and frontal: the puppy looks straight at the viewer, and it is that look which holds the picture together. The light falls from above, making the fur on its head and ears look almost golden.
