Description

“Spring mood” is a large bouquet of white tulips with sprays of mimosa on a pale watercolour ground — a fresh, airy picture of early spring.

What the picture shows

The composition works on contrast: dense white and cream tulip buds with a hint of pink gather at the bottom, while fluffy yellow clusters of mimosa scatter above them. Long deep-green leaves hold the bouquet together and carry the eye upwards. The background is a blurred turquoise-and-blue wash with pale streaks and no detail at all. Coverage is partial: the flowers, buds and leaves are worked in beads, while the watercolour background and the finest stems stay printed on the canvas, so the piece keeps the lightness of the original painting. The bouquet is shown close up and runs off the edges of the picture, as if the flowers had just been set down in front of you. The mimosa is worked in small yellow circles and carries the whole colour accent.
