Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "Spring in Provence"
Description
“Spring in Provence” puts large lilac flowers in the foreground, with a village landscape and a chapel opening up behind them.
What the picture shows
Five big lilac-pink blooms with fluffy yellow centres grow on strong green stems; the petals lighten towards the edges and a couple of buds still hang closed. Behind them lies the view: a white stone chapel with a tower, small houses under tiled roofs, a stone wall, a yellow flowering field and a tall tree in russet leaf on the right. The soil at the bottom is dark and strewn with pebbles. Coverage is partial: the flowers, stems, leaves and a few pebbles are worked in beads, while the whole landscape, the sky and the field stay printed on the canvas. The flowers are seen close up, almost at eye level, so they look larger than the houses in the distance — and that contrast of scale is what makes the subject interesting. The palette is soft: lilac, green and ochre.
