Description

“Splashes of Summer” — an armful of wild flowers gathered on the way home: daisies, poppies, bellflowers and grasses. The bouquet has scattered across the whole canvas like splashes.

What the picture shows

The composition is circular, opening out from the centre. Its base is large white daisies with yellow centres; red-orange poppies and buds burn between them, and lilac and violet bellflowers and small blooms are scattered around the edges. Long green grasses and thin sprigs run through the bouquet and reach right out to the edges of the field. The background is a soft green-yellow wash with a break of warm light in the upper right corner. The coverage is dense but not solid: beads fill the whole bouquet — flowers, buds, leaves and most of the grasses — while the blurred background around it stays printed, so the armful looks springy and full.
