Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "Scarlet Hibiscus"
Description
“Scarlet Hibiscus” shows two large hibiscus flowers opened across the whole canvas, with their characteristic striped petals.
What the picture shows
The blooms are set on a diagonal: the larger one at lower left, the second at upper right, with a bud and several small ones beside them. The petals are red-crimson, veined with dark lines and fine white and blue stripes radiating from the centre; yellow stamens project on long columns. The leaves are large and toothed, with clear pale veins. The background is a soft watercolour wash where yellow, lime and pale blue flow into one another. Here the beadwork is nearly full: beads cover both flowers, the leaves, the buds and the background inside the frame, while the narrow strips at top and bottom, with their faintly sketched pink flowers, stay printed. The blooms are shown very large, almost close-up, so the piece reads like a botanical study. The contrast between the cool blue stripes on the petals and the warm background is the main effect of this pattern.
