Description

“Rivals” shows two peacocks facing each other beside a woodland waterfall: one white, the other in full colour.

What the picture shows

On the left stands a white peacock whose long tail is covered with faintly drawn pale eyes; on the right is his rival, with a turquoise neck, a brown back and a green-yellow tail where blue and red eyes burn brightly. The birds are turned head to head, their crests almost touching. Between them a waterfall drops in the middle distance, and below it lies a calm pool with stones and reflections. Dark trunks and dense foliage rise on both sides, with light breaking through. The beadwork is partial: beads cover both birds completely, the falling water and part of the pool, while the forest, the stones and the banks stay printed. The composition is almost symmetrical: the two tails spread from the centre like a pair of fans, with the waterfall between them working as a pale vertical. The palette rests on turquoise, green and white.
