“Rest at river” is a mountain view with a fast river and a campfire halt on the bank.

What the picture shows

At the centre stands a snow-capped rocky peak lit by the sun, and a broad river runs down from it over stones and white rapids. The banks are covered with autumn forest: golden birches, dark firs, russet bushes and red flowers in the foreground. On the right a man in a blue jacket sits by the water beside a fire, with a kettle hanging over the flames. A few red fish show in the water on the left. The sky is high, with pink clouds. Coverage is partial: beads go on the birch leaves, grass, bushes, stones and the highlights on the water, while the mountains, sky, river and figure stay printed on the canvas. The river runs diagonally from bottom to top and leads the eye straight to the peak. The colours are bright and contrasting: cool blue-white water beside the gold and crimson of the banks, with the fire adding a warm patch on the right.
