Description

“Reflection” is a city park in autumn: a brick bridge over the water, bare branches and glass towers dissolving into a burst of colour below.

What the picture shows

The composition falls into two halves. Above are a pale sky, the outlines of high-rises laid in broad strokes and trees in orange and yellow on both sides; a bridge with a single arch crosses the water, with a white colonnade behind it. Bushes on the right flower in pink and lilac. The lower half is the water itself, where everything repeats in bands of red, blue, turquoise and gold, with slim dark trunks running through them. The beading is partial: beads cover the trees, the bridge, the buildings and the banks, while the sweeping reflections in the water and part of the sky stay printed on the canvas. That contrast between smooth beadwork and brushstroke is what gives the piece its depth.
