Description

“Poppy's by the Lake” shows pink poppies on the bank of still water with a willow leaning over it. The mood is a summer morning by a pond.

What the picture shows

Large poppies fill the foreground: pink petals with yellow-orange centres, thin green stems, and long narrow reed leaves between them. The flowers run along the whole lower edge and climb up the sides. Behind them lies the water surface with lily pads and the reflection of trees; weeping willow branches hang on the left and a green wall of forest darkens in the distance. The water is blue-turquoise and very calm. Coverage is partial: beads work the poppies, the stems, the willow foliage and the island of plants on the water, while the water itself, the sky and the far forest stay printed on the canvas — that contrast is what gives the piece its depth.
