Description

“Pink Cloud” — an old window with turquoise shutters under a spilling pink cloud of bougainvillea. A warm southern wall, sunflowers in a pot and birds on the roof.

What the picture shows

At the centre is a window with blue-turquoise shutters and a grille, terracotta pots of red flowers standing on the sill. From above, a dense mass of small pink and magenta blossom pours down the stone wall, picked up by green foliage at the left and below. To the right of the window grow yellow sunflowers; lower down are lilac flowers and a large wheel propped against the wall, and birds sit along the roof edge. The wall itself is sun-bleached, in grey and sandy tones. The stitching is partial, with a twist: the flowers and leaves run past the edge of the printed rectangle and scatter in beads across the bare canvas, while the wall, the window inside its grille and the stonework stay printed.
