“Origami ships” — three paper boats in a puddle in the middle of an autumn town built from lilac and pink shades.

What the picture shows

In the foreground three large paper boats float on the water, folded from white paper with a blue pattern, and mirrored in the puddle below. Behind them the town rises: a tall building with sharp turrets at the centre, rows of houses on either side, a street with tiny figures of passers-by. The trees are shedding, and russet and golden leaves fly right across the canvas. The background is a page of old newspaper with small printed text, visible along the top and bottom. Coverage is partial: beads fill the boats, the houses, the trees and the leaves, while the newspaper ground and the sky stay printed on the canvas.
