Description

“On Shore” is a quiet corner of the coast: a stone cottage under a flowering tree, boats at the water's edge and sailing ships on the horizon.

What the picture shows

On the left stands a small house with terracotta shutters and a wooden door, overhung by a tree covered in yellow-green leaves and pink-crimson blossom; a rake and clay pots lean against the wall. The centre opens onto a bright sea with white sails, and on the right a small red-and-white lighthouse stands on the mole, surrounded by bushes in pink flower. Two wooden boats lie on the stony shore below, with a gull beside them and three more in a high sky full of cumulus. In the foreground there is a round table with a potted plant. The beading is partial: the tree, the house, the boats, the lighthouse, the bushes and the shore are beaded, while the sky, the clouds and the far water stay printed on the canvas.
