“New-year gladnesses” — a small festive gift shop under snow, with garlands, a wreath on the door and a window full of toys.

What the picture shows

The shopfront takes up almost the whole canvas. At the top is a red sign with lettering and a golden reindeer, topped with snow, green fir and red berries. On the left is a door with a large Christmas wreath and a red bow; on the right, the window: a teddy bear, a white rabbit, a decorated tree, a pile of presents in striped paper and three red stockings hung along the ledge. In front stand clipped little trees in baskets and a white penny-farthing bicycle with a basket of gifts. Snow and two robins fill the bottom. Coverage is partial: beads fill the building, the decorations and the snow, while the cream sky stays as print on the canvas.
