Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "Narcissus"
Description
“Narcissus” — a dense clump of white narcissi in an old wooden crate.
What the picture shows
The flowers are white with bright orange coronas, gathered into a thick cap, with long grey-green leaves and firm stems pushing up between them. Below sits a crate of darkened boards held with nails, an old faded inscription across its front. Beside it are small blue scillas, violets and green grass; a russet butterfly rests on the upper flowers, and a grey-and-yellow bird has settled on the right-hand edge of the crate. The background is a soft green-yellow wash with no detail. Coverage is partial but very dense: the flowers, foliage, crate boards and grass are all beaded, which takes almost twelve thousand beads. The flowers run past the top edge of the composition, so the clump seems larger than the picture field — a simple device, but it works.
