“My Dad's Hat” shows a little girl sitting on a sunlit terrace, studying the big straw hat she holds in her lap.

What the picture shows

The child is seen in profile: fair hair tied in a ponytail with a blue ribbon, a sleeveless blue dress whose full skirt spreads across the tiles. The hat is straw, a warm ochre colour, with a wide brim clearly far too large for her. A red apple with a bite taken out of it lies on the floor nearby. Around her is dense greenery and flowers: pink peonies on the left, crimson and red blooms on the right, leaves hanging from above. The floor is laid with pale slabs patched with sunlight. The beadwork is partial: beads cover the dress, the hat, the flowers, the leaves and part of the floor, while the face, the hands and the hair stay printed.
