What the picture shows

The woman, with thick red-gold hair falling in waves, bends her head and looks down at the baby. The child, in a pale blue shirt, leans against her and lifts a hand to her face. Her clothing is painted in broad bands of colour — blue, lilac, crimson, ochre — like a shawl or a woven throw.
