Description

“March” — a fluffy cat sits among willow branches while small birds settle on the twigs nearby. The mood is early spring: warm light, the first pussy willows and the quiet before everything turns green.

What the picture shows

The composition is vertical. At the bottom sits a large cream-and-ginger striped cat with amber eyes, looking straight at the viewer. Higher up, three birds with yellow-green and brown breasts perch on interwoven branches. The branches are covered with silvery-white willow catkins, and the background is a warm ochre-yellow watercolour wash with brown trunks. A narrow ornamental band closes the central panel on both sides. The stitching is partial: beads cover the catkins, the birds, the outlines of the branches and the side bands, while the cat itself, the yellow background and the painted branches along the canvas edges stay printed, keeping the watercolour softness.
