“Magic dream” — a large ornamental butterfly above a meadow of small flowers.

What the picture shows

Its wings are painted like stained glass: blue and pale blue fields divided by yellow-orange veins, with red and blue square rosettes inside, while the lower wings shift into lilac and green with a fine fringe. A band of green grass runs along the bottom, filled with violet, orange, white and yellow flowers; two smaller butterflies fly alongside. The background is a light cream-grey field covered in a lace of painted rings and rosettes that read like snowflakes. Coverage is partial: the butterflies and the flower band are beaded, while the lacy ground stays printed and deliberately muted. The butterfly takes up nearly two thirds of the field, so it carries the whole composition while the flowers below simply echo its colours. The symmetry of the wings is exact, and the beads run mirror-fashion to either side.
