What the picture shows

A pale long-haired puppy lies at the centre with its legs stretched out, asleep, head turned to one side. A ginger tabby kitten has curled up right on its neck, one paw around it. Behind them rises a heap of pillows: a blue one with a ruffle, a cream one, a large one with a floral print and lace edging, and a golden curtain hanging at the left. The bedding beneath the animals is pieced from scraps — blue, white and pink diamonds and squares — with a pink floral section at the lower right. The beadwork is partial: beads cover the patchwork quilt, the patterned pillows, the lace and the pink flowers, while the puppy and kitten themselves, the curtain and the plain parts of the pillows stay printed on the canvas.
