Description

“Idyll” shows a red dachshund lying on a white quilted cover beside an open book and a bunch of flowers.

What the picture shows

The dog takes the centre of the composition: lying with its front paws stretched out, head raised, long ears hanging, a dark collar with a pendant at its neck. The coat is smooth chestnut-red, darker along the back and lighter at the chest. Behind it on the left is a bouquet of pink, lilac and yellow flowers with green leaves; on the right a white lace pillow with embroidery. Below lie an open book with a drawing of a dog on the page and a red ribbon bookmark. The background is an even lilac-grey and the cover is white and quilted. The dog looks off to the side and slightly upward, which makes the pose read as calm and attentive. The beading is partial: the flowers, the pillow, the book, the ribbon and the background are beaded, while the dachshund itself stays printed on the canvas — its painted coat is what carries the piece.
