Description

“Heaven birds” — three ornate birds above a tree of life, worked in a dot-painting style.

What the picture shows

The composition is built around a large yellow-green circle like a sun. In the lower half stands a dark blue tree with spreading branches and round crowns scattered with flower rosettes. Three birds fly out from the centre: pink and orange on the left, blue and pink on the right, and a striped white-and-orange one in the middle, each with tail and wings covered in fine patterning. The background is held together by concentric arcs of dots in emerald, turquoise and deep blue. Coverage is partial: beads run in rows along those arcs and outline the birds, the trunk and the flower rosettes, while the painted dots stay printed. Twelve shades are more than enough here, because the colour areas are large and clean, with no gradations; the difficulty lies in the rhythm rather than in matching tones.
