Description

“Golden Wonder” shows an armful of dandelions in a round glass vase, with a yellow chick standing beside it on a lace cloth.

What the picture shows

The bouquet spreads wide: dozens of yellow dandelion heads, a few already going to seed, long toothed leaves and springy stems. The vase is round and clear, with the stems visible through the glass. It stands on a wooden table covered with a large-patterned white crocheted cloth; a few picked flowers lie beside it. On the right a small fluffy chick bends its head towards scattered grains. The background is the greyish-blue boards of a wall. The beadwork is partial: beads cover all the flowers, the leaves, the lace cloth and part of the table top, while the vase, the chick and the boards stay as the painted print. The light falls from the left, so the dandelion heads are almost white on one side and turn to warm ochre on the other, and that is what gives the bouquet its volume.
