“Forever love” — two owls sit side by side on a branch, dressed like a respectable couple out for a Sunday walk.

What the picture shows

On the left is “he”: a black top hat with a blue ribbon, round spectacles, an umbrella tucked under one wing. On the right is “she”: a small green hat trimmed with leaves and a long string of green beads. Both birds are painted in warm ochre, russet and greyish-white tones, with large yellow eyes turned the same way. Behind them is a blue sky with tall clouds, a thick trunk and a twig of small green leaves. Coverage is partial: the owls, hats, spectacles and necklace are beaded, while the sky, clouds and bark stay printed. Seventeen bead shades carry the plumage from dark ochre through to greyish white without losing the softness of the transitions.
