“Forest bouquet” — spring flowers growing right between the trunks of a wood, with light falling on them through the tall trees.

What the picture shows

The centre of the canvas holds a dense clump of early bloomers: pink and white lilies with long petals, yellow daffodils, a blue hyacinth, small white bells and sprays of cherry blossom. Around them are thick green leaves and grass, and tiny snowdrop-like flowers show white at the bottom. A bee has settled on a flower at the left and another flies nearby. Tall dark trunks stand on either side with a pale misty gap between them, and the branches above are covered in white blossom. Coverage is partial: beads fill the flowers, the foliage and the blossom on the branches, while the trunks, the mist and the depth of the wood stay as print on the canvas. That pushes the bouquet forward and keeps the wood behind it soft and slightly blurred.
