“Flowers by the Sea” — a generous bouquet in a glass vase on a table by a window, with the sea and a coastal town beyond it. The picture is festive and full of colour.

What the picture shows

The bouquet is made of large round blooms — yellow, orange, pink and blue — with patterned centres, set among green and lilac leaves, small daisies and a butterfly. The vase is transparent, worked in pale blue beads. To the right a bowl with a halved lemon stands on the table, and a blue-and-white bird perches beside it. Through the window are a blue sea with a sailing boat, a lighthouse, green hills and houses with red roofs. The tablecloth is striped with red and turquoise bands. The beadwork is partial: the bouquet, the vase, the tableware, the bird and part of the view are beaded, while the sky, the sea and the hills stay as print on the canvas.
