Description

“Floral Cocktail” is a bunch of daisies and small wild flowers in a glass jar against a mottled, colour-splashed background.

What the picture shows

A clear jar stands at the centre, the stems visible through the glass; it is painted in dark blue-graphite strokes with yellow highlights. Out of it rises a generous bouquet: large white daisies with yellow centres, small orange and red flower heads above, single pink and lilac blooms, and thin green leaves trailing down. The background is free abstraction — patches of turquoise, ochre, red and blue laid on as if with a palette knife. The bouquet spreads wide, almost the full width of the canvas, and sits a little above centre. The beading is partial and fairly sparing: beads go only on the flowers, the stems and the jar, while the whole colourful background stays printed on the canvas and holds the composition together.
