“Favourite flowers” sets lush blossom in a painted vase on a terrace, with a river valley opening beyond the railing.

What the picture shows

The bouquet fills the whole upper part of the picture: large pink flower heads, white and pale lilac clusters, and dark glossy leaves. A few clusters hang down almost to the table. The ceramic vase, painted in warm tones, shows on the right behind the flowers. The table is covered with a white lace cloth, and a wooden terrace railing runs in front of it. In the distance lie a river, sandy banks, fields and a high pale sky. Coverage is partial: the flowers, leaves, vase, lace and railing are worked in beads, while the landscape, sky and river stay printed on the canvas. The picture works on near against far: large, almost three-dimensional flower heads above, and a soft pale valley below on the left. The colours are clean — pink, white and green — and they hold one another well.
