Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "Enfilade"

“Enfilade” shows an old stone courtyard somewhere in the south, where bougainvillea spills over the arches and steps. The mood is that of a quiet afternoon with nobody around.

What the picture shows

At the centre stands heavy stonework with a tall pointed arch; on the left a flight of steps with terracotta pots, on the right another passage in shadow. The walls are draped in pink and lilac blossom, and dark cypresses rise behind them. A paved terrace of warm sandstone spreads across the foreground. The whole palette rests on three things: pink flowers, lush green foliage and greyish-beige stone. The beadwork is partial: beads cover the blossom, the leaves, individual stones of the wall, the steps, the pots and part of the paving, while the sky, the distant trees and the hazy background stay as the painted print on the canvas. Only what should catch the light is stitched.
