What the picture shows

Several levels of frames run from the edges towards the centre: dark burgundy, coral pink and black, with orange and mustard triangles wedged between them. Closer to the middle the rhythm grows finer, olive and greyish-pink wedges appear, and at the very core sits a small black-and-red diamond with rays. The whole palette rests on nine shades of red, burgundy, pink, black and orange. Coverage here is full: beads cover the entire field to the edges and no printed ground shows anywhere. That is why far more beads are needed than in a pictorial design — over twenty-three thousand. The design reads like a mandala: you count from the edges towards the middle, so a mistake shows up early in the rows.
