Description

“Deco cockerel” — a festive rooster with a magnificent tail, drawn in the manner of folk floral painting. The picture is highly colourful and cheerful.

What the picture shows

The rooster fills almost the whole field: its body and tail are built from long curving feathers — green, yellow, crimson, blue and orange — with fine white strokes and dots inside each one. Its head, with a red comb and wattles, turns to the right. Flowers seem to grow out of it below and to the right: blue bells, crimson clusters, multicoloured petals and small berries on thin stems. Bands of ornament made of red blossoms and green leaves border the canvas at the top and bottom. The ground is pale cream. The beading is partial: beads cover the feathers, the flowers, the comb and both borders, while the cream ground and the fine outlines stay as print on the canvas.
