What the picture shows

The composition gathers in the centre and spills downwards: several open bell-shaped blooms in light blue with whitish veining and a warm heart, surrounded by buds and smaller flowers. Stems reach down from above and curl into tendrils, and the leaves run through many greens, from pale lime to deep dark. The background is white, barely touched by blurred lilac, pink and yellow washes. The fill is partial: beads cover the flowers, buds, leaves, stems and tendrils, while the pale watercolour ground with its soft colour bleeds stays printed on the canvas — which is what keeps the piece light rather than crowded.
